Let Me Tell You a Tale of a Giveaway Gone Wrong

July 5, 2018

Ending today the local grocery store is having a sale on 12 packs of Diet Dr. Pepper, 4 for $10. My husband has gotten into Diet Dr. Pepper since hearing a review of it on The Anthropocene Reviewed (terrific podcast) so he bought four. I mean, who can turn down that terrific deal, right? He bought 48 cans of Diet Dr. Pepper.

The boxes advertised a giveaway, a free Dr. Pepper T-Shirt of your choice, if you text them a picture of a receipt showing that you bought 3 twelve packs of Dr.  Pepper (diet or otherwise.)

But the hubby lost the receipt.

And I got mad.

Those were some cool looking T-shirts, and I silently moped around until two hours later when he found the receipt.

So I have an awesome Dr. Pepper T-shirt on the way!

But the Dr. Pepper People texted me and told me that if I get just two more 12 packs I can have another free T-shirt.

But the deal is 4 for $10.

So I went back to the store and bought eight more 12 packs (96 cans.) That totals to twelve twelve packs-- four free T-shirts! Yay math! No clothes shopping at all this summer. Just a lot of Dr. Pepper shirts—so many cool designs.

And it’s a very big BUT…

So that’s 142 cans of diet Dr. Pepper (already drank two), one free T-shirt, a heavy dose of Karma, and a lot of T-shirt envy. (Man, I really wanted the one with the sloths on it.) And the store has run out of Dr. Pepper.

Meanwhile, the proof copy of my new kids’ book 99 Bottles: A Funny Story About Negative Numbers came in the mail. Here’s the back copy:

“Let me tell you a tale of a road trip gone wrong. This car ride was ruined all because of a song. What’s worse than being stuck in a car with your sister singing “99 Bottles of Pop?” When she counts down to zero and just keeps going.”

I WISH I only had 99 bottles of pop. They might actually fit in the pantry.

SO…here’s a free e-copy of the book for anyone who wants it. The paperback is either available now on Amazon or will be soon. And here’s three special offers:

  1. For Locals: Tell me what you think of the book in person (darn those postage costs), and I’ll give you a free can of Diet Dr. Pepper. “Tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper.”

  2. Send me a picture of a receipt with one or more 12 packs of Dr. Pepper on it dated 6/15/18 - 8/15/18 and I’ll send you a free paperback copy of 99 Bottles. (I still really want those T-shirts…) email address:

  3. Send me a screen shot of a review you posted on Amazon of 99 Bottles and I’ll send you a free paperback copy of 99 Bottles. Here's where you can post your review:   email address:
