Cave of the Winds

To get to the Cave of the Winds in Los Alamos you take the Quemazon Trail. The trailhead is off of Trinity Drive west of Diamond Drive. It is marked with a trail sign.

You follow the trail uphill approximately one mile. The turn off is on the left side of the trail and is the second turn off after the trail finally flattens for a time. It is well marked with logs stacked up on each side like Lincoln Logs.

You follow the short spur “Cave of the Winds Trail” to the side of the cliff. It’ll be marked by a cairn. It’s a bit of a scramble down the side of the cliff about 100 feet to the cave entrance which is a narrow gap between rocks.

The cave is a single cavern, but has a small (crawling) tunnel toward the back with both ends in the cavern. It can be dark. Bring a flashlight. You may see bats hanging from the cave ceiling.
