Pray that when your dreams come true you'll be grateful.

"Pray that when your dreams come true you'll be grateful."

Do you know the origin of that quote? If so, please tell me because I'd like to attribute it.

I've been thinking about that quote this week. It's excellent advice for a number of reasons.

  1. The power of positive thinking. The very language of your prayer implies that your dreams are bound to come true. It promotes a positive attitude.

  2. The power of gratitude. I listened to an episode of Freakonimics recently called, "Why is my life so hard?" which talks about the profound impact gratitude has on our happiness levels. I've also heard gratitude linked to health and longevity, as well as success. People like grateful people and are more likely to help them.

  3. Don't assume that just because you really want something you'll like it when you have it. This is the reason this quote has been on my mind. I've started looking into the possibility of buying a house, which has gotten me thinking about the last time I bought a house. I owned a house for about two years about ten years ago. At the time it seemed like the perfect opportunity, a dream come true. But it turned out to be a big mistake and was a contributing factor in one of the worst periods of my life. Pursue your dreams with enthusiasm, but with care. Be open to Plan B's.

That's about all I have to say right now. It's been a long week, but I do have a double Book of the Week this week which I hope will partly make up for it.

Books of the Week:

5,000 Words Per Hour: Write Faster, Write Smarter. I've heard a lot about Chris Fox, but this is the first time I've read one of his books. It's a short read without a lot of fluff but with a lot of good tips about increasing your writing speed. I recommend it, but if you want a brief summation:Track number of words during short timed writing sprints. Tracking helps you increase speed over time. Plot your books ahead of time; don't just wing it (I plan to read the book Take Off Your Pants next to help me with this.) And use Dragon dictation software--something I've been planning to get for a long time, but need to just do, now.
